This week's Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl) is all about the sorry little books that have been shelved so long they create a cloud of dust when you flick the pages....okay maybe not that bad - but there ARE quite a few books that I've owned for aaaaages...and still haven't read yet.
I did a big clearout of my shelves before Christmas and got rid of so many books...so here are the ones that are left my PHYSICAL TBR that have been there the longest and I really should get round to reading sometime NOW
I do really want to read Passenger by Alexandra Bracken and there's no good reason why I haven't already. For some reason I keep telling myself that I should read her Darkest Minds trilogy first - even though it's completely unrelated to this one and there's really no NEED at all - and I think that might be the reason I haven't picked it up yet.
A lot of people say that Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard is just a re-hash of your other run-of-the-mill dystopian fantasy books....but I kind of like them...don't sue me...
I don't believe in calling something a 'guilty pleasure'...because if something makes you happy you shouldn't feel ashamed or guilty about it....unless it's illegal in which case stop that right now...so yeah, I love me some dystopian and I'm expecting to fully love this series. I just need to pick up this one...
I have read everything by Gillian Flynn except for Sharp Objects...and so far I've loved all of her books. I DO find them very intense and kind of stressful to read...which is why I leave long breaks between them and inevitably why I haven't read this one yet. I'm definitely going to pick it up soon though...I feel ready to sink into the pits of morally grey characters and mysteries I can't solve!!
I've heard so many good things about the Winner's Curse trilogy by Marie Rutkoski and I have wanted to start it for so long...like all the other books on this list there is literally no good reason why I haven't yet. Shame on me, I know.
I have Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor and I desperately want to read it...but as with Passenger, I feel like I have to read her earlier books before I can start that one (I know I KNOW that I don't, it's just my strange little mind, okay). I'm planning on reading Daughter of Smoke and Bone in the next few months so I'm knocking this off my list ASAP!!
This is the book on this list that's been there the longest...I'm talking 3-4 years maybe more. The Beast House Trilogy by Richard Laymon is something that I always save to read at Halloween...then forget to read it on Halloween...then feel I must save it again for Halloween....it's a vicious cycle of this book never getting read. Plus, I'm scared. Plus, it's huge
BUT
I am FOR SURE going to read it THIS October I solemnly swear!
No reason why I haven't read The Conspiracy of Us by Maggie Hall yet. I want to. And I haven't. What else is new.
I've said it before and I'll say it again...I'm definitely going to be reading An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir soon. I NEED TO!! I need to read all of these books soon!! I've heard really great things about this book and I think I'm going to like it...but I'll never know unless I pick it up will I????
My daughter actually picked The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepherd out of my TBR jar TODAY...so this one will definitely be getting read in the next couple of weeks. YAY for progress!!!
I've mainly left The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson for so long because it intimidates me. Sanderson has created such a huge extended world in his books and I feel like once I dive in I'll start drowning....but I love a good heist book and I've heard this is one of the best...so I must push away the fear of the water and...
Which books have been on your TBR for the longest?
Do you plan on getting to them anytime soon or leaving them to fester for longer?
Should I read any of these books RIGHT NOW??
Oh you sure have some of my favs up there! You need to read Ember in the Ashes!!! It wasn't on my radar for a while, until the release of the sequel, and it's amazing!!! You'll love the story and the characters.
ReplyDeleteThe Winner's Curse is beautiful. And the ship is just sooooo good. The feels.
And The Daughter of Smoke and Bone is written so well, you'll fall in love immediately. And would want to visit Prague.
Aaaargh you're making me sad I've not read them already...but also excited for all the goodies to come!
DeleteOoh, you have so many good books on this list! Red Queen is one of my guilty pleasures (although why are "guilty" pleasures even a thing? if we like books we should just read them), An Ember In the Ashes is so fast-paced and readable, and Daughter of Smoke and Bone is just full of Laini Taylor deliciousness. I really want to get to reading Passenger and The Winner's Curse but I don't have them! *sneaks onto your bookshelf and steals your books*
ReplyDeleteExactly, I said the exact same thing about guilty pleasures. Also back away slowly from my bookshelf *extends pitchfork*
DeleteI've read Conspiracy of Us and really enjoyed it! I just haven't gotten around to carrying on with the series which is typical of me to be honest!
ReplyDeleteEverything I've heard about it sounds right up my street so I'm hoping to love it!
DeleteThe Madman's Daughter and Red Queen have also been on my TBR forever. I am really excited for them, I just haven't gotten around to it.
ReplyDeleteLol that gif of Steven Yeun.
Here's our TTT: http://jennreneeread.blogspot.com/2018/02/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten-oldest-series.html
It's crazy how e can be so excited about books and just leave them sitting there, right?
DeleteI hope you get a chance to read these soon! I need to read An Ember in the Ashes and Daughter of Smoke and Bone, too.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
They seem to be on a lot of lists I noticed! Hope you enjoy them when you do finally read them
